Album Launch Party: TOO MANY SWEETS

18 June @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

£5 – £15

You are invited to a celebration of composer Benjamin Oliver‘s first portrait album TOO MANY SWEETS, released in April 2024 by Birmingham Record Company (distributed by NMC). The album features artists including Ensemble Saxologie (Montreal), Riot Ensemble, Clíodna Shanahan & Dorothy Chan (New York).

The show, introduced by Matthew Shlomowitz, will feature: Yshani Perinpanayagam giving the world premiere of album opener Drip Feeder (2022) for piano and electronics; screenings of two films featuring Ben’s music by Alys Scott-Hawkins (‘ANIL SOOD’, commissioned London Sinfonietta) and Moe Myat May Zarchi (‘MOON LANDING (VERSION 2.0 LONGGYI’), commissioned Phantom Limb); and Ben performing a new vocal-piano-electronics version of his Love Letters (2023) song cycle with British soul sensation Hannah Williams.

As with the album you can expect “filthy crooked grooves and shameless flirtations with the nearest triad” and the sound of bespoke low-memory synthesisers designed and built by chipmusic composer Blake Troise (aka PROTODOME).

Plus some sugary treats…
